Significant Changes for Australia Work Experience points from 7th January 2020

Source url https://www.aptechvisa.com/latest-news/significant-changes-for-australia-work-experience-points-from-7th-january-2020

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has now changed the way they used to access skilled candidates on their work experience points. These changes have been declared on 7th January 2020.
Earlier, if an individual was accessed through some skills assessment authorities (AIM, ACS (offshore) etc), the assessing body would determine a “deeming date”. Any person who has work experience that was undertaken before this “deeming date” was unable to be counted as skilled for work experience points.
Now, DHA has changed this policy and will allow any kind of work experience that takes place after acquiring academic qualifications and work experience to count for immigration points.
Australian_PR_Immigration_Points

Under the new Australian policy, following points will be taken into account:
  • The opinion of the relevant skills assessing authority on the period of skilled employment includes the date when the assessing authority deemed the skilled applicant.
  • The ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand standard Classification of Occupations) contains any pre-requisite work experience and academic qualifications that are relevant to claimed skilled employment and any other appropriate information like employment records and reference.
  • If the opinion of skills assessing authority would result in applicant to award fewer points than claimed by applicant in EOI, then decision makers will consider the information in ANSZCO while determining the applicant was working at a skilled level.
Take an example, if an overseas IT graduate gain 5 years of work experience as an ICT security specialist, the ACS will use the first 2 years for meeting the skills assessment standards and 3 years will be counted as skilled for DHA points. Now, the entire 5 years will be counted as skilled points for ANZSCO.
