Important Update: The programs for skilled and business migration for 2022–23 are now open.

The South Australian Government has released an updated skilled occupation list, describing the skills it intends to fill through international talent as well as migrants already living and working in South Australia, and the 2022–23 General Skilled Migration (GSM) program is now open.

The list is one of the most comprehensive in the country, and qualified immigrants, including our very outstanding overseas graduates, are eligible to apply for state nomination in more than 500 different professions.

With almost 470 occupations this year, up from 380 in 2021–2022, the number of occupations available to immigrants from outside has once again reached pre–COVID epidemic levels.

The 2022–23 Skilled Migration Program will give preference to

  1. Nominations for skilled migrants who have experience in fields that are in demand, such as health, information and communications technology (ICT), education, engineering, agribusiness, and trades, or
  2. Who can contribute their skills to fields that are developing, such as high-tech and digital, health and life sciences, green energy, defence, space, and cyber security?

The Safe Haven Enterprise visa (SHEV), which allows humanitarian migrants to enter South Australia, is also expected to benefit from more flexible routes to permanent residence.

The state's priority is to nominate both talented and experienced foreign migrants who can fill urgent shortages as well as migrants who are currently residing and working in South Australia—to retain those with in-demand talents.

A skilled immigrant who has the necessary qualifications and has been nominated by the South Australian government may then apply for a visa through the Department of Home Affairs of the Australian government.
