Tourism Australia Aims at 1 Million Visitors from India by 2030

Australia counts on Indian tourists to improve visitor numbers, with a million Indian visitors expected by 2030. “The Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement with India, which was inked last month India, is expected to bring more Indian tourists to Australia. According to Kashikar, there is a significant unmet demand for Indian travellers to visit Australia, seeing a surge in bookings and Australia visitor visa applications. Kashikar further stated that aircraft capacity on India-Australia routes will have tripled by December of this year. "We had eight flights a week before COVID, but that will increase to 23 flights a week by September 14 when Qantas begins service between Sydney and Bangalore," he said.

Last month, Australia's leading airline, Qantas, announced the launch of its first direct service between Sydney and Bangalore, with four weekly return flights beginning in September. The direct connection to southern India is projected to drive Indian visitors to Australia, with Bangalore accounting for a large portion of overall Indian arrivals. Bangalore was second in arrivals and third in spending among Indian visitors visiting Australia before COVID. The market attracted 41,000 visitors, accounting for 11% of all Indian visitors to Australia.

The initial goal for Tourism Australia is to attract 400,000 visits and A$ 1.8 billion in spending from Indian tourists in the first full year of operations, or by March 2023, and Kashikar is looking forward to Australia's hosting of the T20 Men's World Cup in October-November. In 2022, he estimates that the cricket event will bring 20,000 Indian visitors to Australia. ​
